Terms
Effective from 2026-11-02. Sminto is a trading name of Netadot Ltd, England and Wales, company number 12658462. "We" below means that company.
The service
The site offers two things free of charge: a check that compares a watch serial number, and optionally a reference number, with tables compiled from published sources; and a record, behind a sign-in, where you can keep the details of a watch you own and download a one-page summary of them.
What the results are
A result is a comparison with published tables. It says whether the serial's format fits patterns the brand has used, which years published tables assert for it, and whether the serial and the reference are consistent with each other. The tables are not the brand's records, the brands neither publish nor endorse them, and they disagree with each other. "Not derivable" and "not in our table yet" are results, not faults.
A result does not say that a watch is or is not what it claims to be. The site has not seen the watch. No lost-or-stolen check is performed on the site; the registries that perform one are linked for you to use.
No warranty
The check and the record are provided as they are. We do not warrant that a result is accurate, complete or up to date, that the site will be available at any time, or that it will suit any purpose you have in mind. A decision to buy, sell, insure or report a watch is yours, and you should not rely on a result alone for it.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Subject to that, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the site or your reliance on a result, including loss of money, data or opportunity, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the service, which is nothing.
Using the check
Use the check for your own purposes or on behalf of someone you are helping. Do not use it to build a copy of the tables by automated means; the tables are published for that under their licence, with the sources on the rows. Requests are rate-limited, and we may refuse or block use that strains the service.
Using the record
The record stores what you enter: brand, serial, reference, one photo, the result as it was on the day, and the date, under your email address. You are responsible for the accuracy of what you store and for having the right to store it. The record is a record of your own details; it is not a registration, a certificate or proof of ownership, and it is not a report to any registry, the police or an insurer.
You sign in with a link sent to your email; there is no password. Keep your email account safe, because anyone who can read it can open your record.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from the record page at any time. Deletion removes your email, every watch you stored and every photo, and it cannot be undone. We may delete an account that has not been used for two years after writing to its address, or close the service with notice on the site, in which case your data is deleted the same way.
Changes
If these terms change, the new version is published here with its date. Changes that reduce what the record offers are announced on the site before they take effect.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection you have where you live.
